The European Commission (EC) has imposed a record fine on Microsoft Corporation for its non-compliance with anti-trust regulations. Microsoft has been found to deny access to the protocols and communication mechanisms that would allow its rivals to co-exist and function with Microsoft systems. The corporation moved to a royalty based model which demanded a very high fee, and has only now reduced the charge to a more reasonable value. The EU has thus sent out a strong message to all businesses that they should be compliant to anti-trust measures and not abuse their leadership position to make unfair profits.
