Pollution caused from the burning of e-waste, unhealthful conditions for workers and dumping in open spaces are the major components of e-waste. This article discusses the growing problems posed by e-waste in cities of India. In addition to domestic e-waste generation, India (and China) have also become major dumping grounds for international e-waste, sometimes paradoxically referred to as ‘donations’ from developed nations. IT industries are the major contributors to this dumping. Public advocacy for appropriate policies and regulations is absolutely essential for managing and regulating the burgeoning problem of e-waste.
