Cameroon’s forest policy allows for communal management of forested lands. In a grassroots PGIS initiative, communities in Cameroon have gained experience in geospatial analysis, planning, and collaboration with experts. An important learning includes the need for a democratic framework for production and storage of knowledge, which is key to harness the benefits of a PGIS mapping system. This initiative evidences the ability of communities to collaboratively address sensitive issues like allocation of resources, and it also highlights how an ICT enabled process mapping process for allocation can increase management efficiency.
