Analysis: Looking at community radio in Africa

The author, from the United Methodist News Service (UMNS), traveled to South Africa, Uganda and Kenya to visit some of the community radio stations being launched and implemented to share information and raise awareness. The aim of the trip was to determine ways for the the United Methodist Church to effectively use community radio to help alleviate the suffering of its African members. He concludes that radio is a powerful tool, especially for the non-literate. Most importantly, broadcasts in many languages help to assure the widest reach of information.
