This short piece by the regional director of Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) discusses major barriers to women's entry into the e-commerce sector. The analysis of gender issues in e-commerce settings reveals that women face significant barriers in education and training. It also looks at employment opportunities for women in the e-commerce sector, such as owning telecentres or work in ITeS and software development. The paper explores the popular phenomenon of home-based office among older professional women. The author suggests that the Business-to-Business (B2B) sector has been the most promising for women, but somewhat glosses over the implications of gender segregation in this realm.
