This paper addresses the promotion of gender as a key component of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policy and strategy processes. It discusses imperative strategies for the creation of an information society, or knowledge economy, and the implications for gender advocacy of the corresponding policies. The paper uses the World Bank ICT sector good practice statement as a starting point for ICT policy, and provides examples of successful infoDev-funded projects that complement such policy. Finally, it suggests some ways in which gender advocates may be more successful in sensitising policy- and decision-makers to gender issues (Author).
