A brief history of the Internet and related networks
Internet Society
The Internet which started as a defense project nearly 35 years back, has now evolved into arguably one of the most significant technological breakthroughs of the twentieth century. The article traces the history of the development of the Internet from its beginnings in a DARPA research program in the United States. It presents a concise summary of the various organisations and their principal roles in the evolution of the Internet in scope and function, with special emphasis on key organisations such as IAB(Internet Activities Board) and IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force). It concludes with a discussion about related networks like BITNET and CSNET, which in its own way contributed significantly to the world of networked computers.
