In this article Michael Geist looks at the potential impact of the next wave of Internet users, the kinds of usage models applicable to them and the way the Internet itself will have to adapt to cater to this 'next billion'. The fact that a majority of these users will come from a different set of demographies will bring new challenges to address, primarily in the areas of the language of communication as well as access devices. The Internet Governance Forum has analysed this imminent change and concluded that it will be a positive force in changing the Internet in new ways to make it more inclusive and truly global.
